VICTORIA
AMANDY
FINANCE COORDINATOR
Victoria has been at Sutherland-Chan since 2009 where she currently holds the position of Finance Coordinator.
Victoria graduated with a B.Sc. in Commerce with a major in accounting from Sacred Heart College in the Philippines before earning her professional license as a Certified Public Accountant in 1989. She went on to complete her Masters in Customs Administration, and in 1991 received her license as a customs broker. She practiced as a public accountant and tax consultant for more than 10 years before immigrating to Canada.
Prior to joining the Sutherland-Chan team she held finance and accounting positions in a variety of industries including financial institutions, transportation, logistics and information technology.
Victoria believes in continuing education; since arriving in Canada she has completed her Certificate in Computerized Accounting from George Brown College in 2008 and is currently pursuing the designation of Certified General Accountant.

Peter graduated with a Specialized Honours B.A. in Kinesiology and Health Science from York University in 1996 and concurrently completed his Certified Exercise Physiologist certification through the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP-CEP). A graduate of Sutherland-Chan, he became a registered massage therapist in 1998 and has since worked in a variety of clinic environments focusing on orthopedics. Peter started teaching at Sutherland-Chan in 2000, joined the core faculty in 2001, and has been part of the administration team since 2002.
As the Assistant Director of Education, Peter is responsible for the oversight of many aspects of the academic and clinical program. As an instructor, he devotes his time to Physiology, Student Clinic, and OSCE Prep (a second year course that prepares students for the CMTO certification examinations).
In addition, Peter maintains a small part-time massage practice and works for the York University Human Performance Lab performing fitness appraisals on essential service workers and a variety of national/international amateur and professional athletes.

Growing up in the Annex in Toronto, Rubena always knew she wanted to attend Sutherland-Chan. Initially taking a different path, she graduated with honours from Seneca College obtaining a diploma in Business Administration back in 2001. After a successful career, and over 20 years in the retail field, she still had the aspiration of becoming an RMT. Graduating in 2015, she now returns to us as the Admissions Coordinator, responsible for helping prospective and incoming students prepare for their challenging and rewarding experience at Sutherland-Chan, something she has experienced firsthand.

Grace graduated from the University of Toronto in 1974 with an Honours B.Sc. in Physiology and Psychology. In 1976 she completed massage therapy training at the 3HO Foundation. Together with Christine Sutherland, she founded Sutherland-Chan School & Teaching Clinic in 1978. In 1980, working with Christine Sutherland and Rhona Birenbaum, she began opening professional massage therapy clinics in Toronto under the name Sutherland-Chan Clinics Inc. Grace has also taught continuing education courses for massage therapists in Hong Kong and throughout Canada and the United States.
In 1998 Grace graduated from the Canadian College of Osteopathy. Throughout her many other activities, Grace has always maintained a part-time private practice in massage therapy, and now blends massage and osteopathic treatment approaches in her work.
In 1987 Grace was a co-founder of the Canadian Sports Massage Therapists Association, and in 1988 she was instrumental in setting up meetings of the presidents of the provincial professional associates, which led to the formation of the Canadian Massage Therapists Alliance. Grace was responsible for the establishment of the American Massage Therapy Association Foundation in 1991 and continued as President until 1995. She also served as the Canadian District representative on the AMTA Board of Directors from 1987-1989.

Matthew started his career in Kinesiology at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. Matthew has a strong understanding of human kinetics, the body and muscle movement. His passion for knowledge and ambition for growth has also led him to accomplish his Bachelor of Education at the University of Ottawa.
After a successful teaching career abroad, Matthew was compelled to Massage Therapy His deep interest in manual therapy, the ability to utilize his knowledge of the body and witnessing first hand how the body heals and adapts following injury eventually led him to the completion of his diploma in massage therapy from Sutherland-Chan School in 2015.
Matthew joined the school in the position of Education Services Coordinator in May, 2016.

Debra graduated from Sutherland-Chan in 1984. Prior to becoming a massage therapist, she worked with homeless and troubled teenagers and taught Women’s Studies at the University of Toronto and York University. She began teaching at Sutherland-Chan in 1985 and continues to teach Pathology and Theory & Practice courses. She has also held the positions of Director of Education from 1985-1989 and Executive Director from 1995 to the present, and in 1998 became a co-owner with Grace Chan.
Debra has represented Sutherland-Chan in numerous organizational roles in the massage therapy profession in Ontario and Canada, as well as at the American Massage Therapy Association’s Council of Schools, of which she was President from 1995-1997, and the Massage Therapy Foundation, where she served as a trustee for four years. She is also a textbook and journal article author and a highly respected continuing education instructor.
In 1998, Debra was the recipient of the Ontario Massage Therapy Association’s Meritorious Service Award, and in 2000, the AMTA Council of Schools Meritorious Service Award.

2006 graduate Lesley Frow joined the Sutherland-Chan teaching team in 2008. The focus of her teaching is clinical assessment, remedial exercise and stroke rehabilitation; her clinical practice centres on sports injury rehab and involves interdisciplinary collaboration with chiropractors, physiotherapists and personal trainers. She strives to create an atmosphere in the classroom that is clear, energetic and promotes self development. Lesley joined the administrative team as Education Services Coordinator in March, 2014.

Farangis completed the first part of her formal education in Tehran, where she obtained a B.Sc. from Beheshti University. She continued her education and went on to obtain certificates in Telecommunications Switching Systems and Management. She worked for over 20 years at the Telecommunications Company of Iran Training Centre, where she held the position of Programming Manager for 18 years and ran the administration office and student affairs department. She was also a faculty member and assisted various training departments. She came to Canada in 2009, obtained her Business Administration diploma in Toronto, and started to work at Sutherland-Chan as Office Manager in December 2010.

Michael joined the Sutherland-Chan management team in 2008. He is responsible for helping the company achieve its financial objectives and for oversight of its computerized systems. Before he immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong, Michael worked with a number of international companies. As Financial Controller for Philips, he assisted in the set up of a manufacturing joint venture in China. He was also Director of Finance at the American Express Bank, where he developed a financial model for use in the Asian Pacific Region. After immigrating to Canada, Michael held controllership positions in some private companies before coming to work at the school.
Michael was the Council Chairman of the Student Union at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He graduated from the University of Warwick (UK) with a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He is also a professional member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA) and Certified Management Accountants (CMA) in Ontario.

Myrtle emigrated from Trinidad and Tobago in search of adventure and to further her education. Over the years, she has worked in both health administration and sales. Her desire to help people and improve their well being propelled her to come to Sutherland-Chan. Myrtle is a graduate of the school and is currently pursuing her career in massage therapy. In addition, she has been working as the morning clinic receptionist.

Jane joined the Sutherland-Chan team in 2007. After taking courses in administration and medical secretarial skills at Sheridan College, Jane has had numerous positions in reception, customer service and office administration, including 10 years as a field staff member at Drake International. She is a familiar figure in Sutherland-Chan’s teaching clinics, booking appointments and making reminder calls for approximately 6000 patient visits per year.

Robert is originally from Edmonton, Alberta. He has a BA from the University of Toronto in English and French Literature, a Certificate in Publishing from Ryerson University and is currently enrolled in a Masters program in Interdisciplinary Studies at Athabasca University. He is a member of the Editors’ Association of Canada. Before coming to Sutherland-Chan in 2007, Robert worked in legal publishing and taught high school English. He has also edited two novels.

Florent is a Sutherland-Chan graduate (‘95) who has returned to S-C as Education Services Coordinator.
Before becoming a massage therapist, he worked in health care as a personal care aide and in municipal recreation, with a focus on providing adapted recreation and leisure programming to disabled children, adults, and senior adults.
Florent has worked in adult education for over 20 years both as a school administrator and teacher of massage therapy in Ontario and in the Maritime provinces. In his role as school director he has also been a representative to various professional local and national associations such as Canadian Council of Massage Therapy Schools and the Ontario Council of Private Massage Therapy Colleges (2009), and as a provincial representative of the Private Career Colleges Association of Nova Scotia with the National Career Colleges Association (2001-2004). As a teacher of massage therapy he has taught both Swedish and non-Swedish massage techniques, treatments, clinical communication, assessments, and has developed clinical outreach curriculum.
